Dates to be arranged
"The first duty of wine is to be Red the second is to
be Burgundy".
( Harry Waugh)
Any time is the best time to visit this magnificent region. Marvel at the exquisite beauty and the vibrant colours of the Cote D'Or.
We will stay on the outskirts of Beaune just a mile away from the Hospices and yet surrounded by vineyards facing the Slopes of Gold. The three star hotel is only a short walk away from Beaune centre with its abundance of restaurants and bistros.
DAY ONE - SUNDAY
Departure from Bedford 6.00 am with convenient pick-up points en route (see separate travel arrangements enclosed)
Dinner is included on the first night in the hotel and will be taken as a group at 8.00 pm. This will give you the opportunity to meet with your fellow wine-lovers.
DAY TWO MONDAY
Our first day we travel the short distance into Beaune to visit the cellars of Patriarch. These are the largest cellars in Burgundy and extend more than 15,000 square metres. The cellars are 14th & 17th Century and lie in the former convent of the Visitation nuns. We will have a guided tour round the cellars followed by a tutored tasting of about nine different wines.
For lunch we will drive up into the hills behind Beaune to La Ferme de la Bache. This is an old Burgundian farm that produces most of the food served in their Auberge. The rest is purchased from known local farms. All the produce is fresh and natural and cooked by Monsieur & Madame Finot. Even the bread is home baked.
Most days we will return to the hotel by mid afternoon. The remainder of the day and evenings are free for you to enjoy at your leisure. Maybe taking the opportunity to do a little shopping, sightseeing - visiting the famous Hospices de Beaune or just taking in the magnificent scenery.
DAY THREE TUESDAY
Today is called The Simple Pleasures of Life. We will meet up with our local guide M. Pierre at Romaneche Thorins and tour the circuit, taking in all of the ten Beaujolais Villages (approximately 35 km). We will then visit Domaine des Grandes Vignes at Quincie en Beaujolais and partake in a monster tasting accompanied by Le Machon Beaujolais. This is a most interesting experience and I would highly recommend purchasing some of the wines on offer.
Lunch is a short journey away at La Ferme Auberge la Bicheronne, where we will take an aperitif followed by a superb five-course lunch with wine (of course).
The afternoon we will visit Les Caves Jaboulets at Romaneche for an exquisite tasting of the fragrantly flavoured Crème de Cassis, Peach, Strawberry, Cherry etc. Also the opportunity to sample the famous Burgundian Marc.
DAY FOUR - WEDNESDAY
We will visit today the Cote Chalonais and have the opportunity to see one of the finest examples of a Chateau in the region, at Rully. A short stroll around the vineyards, will be followed by a tasting of the remarkable wines of the region.
Just a short drive to Meursault where a delicious four course lunch will be served at Le Relais de la Diligence, just a short distance from Chateau Meursault.
DAY FIVE - THURSDAY
We will depart the hotel at around 8.30 a.m. and have a lunch stop on the motorway, catching the mid-afternoon shuttle from Calais.
Included in the price is travel/hotel accommodation/dinner on the first night/breakfast/lunch on tour days inclusive of wine/entry to all tastings.
Excluded: evening meals (apart from the first night without wine) and lunch on travelling days. Entry to chateaux or other historical monuments.
